1950年代中期に米軍から港商商会（テーラー東洋の前身）が製作の依頼を受け、ハワイの米軍基地のPX（基地内の売店）に並んだスーベニアジャケットを再現。ブルーのアセテート生地に黒を基調とした虎が描かれているが、針足を駆使し、刺繍の立体感のみで虎斑（とらふ）の模様や毛並みを表現しているところに職人の技術の高さが垣間見える。

 

リバーシブル面はハワイの基地に納品されていたスカジャンらしく、ハワイの風景柄。胸と背にはパームツリー。その奥に見えるのはダイヤモンド・ヘッドであろうか。ハワイでのリゾートが隆盛を極め、アロハシャツが流行し、アメリカがオリエンタルブームに沸いた1950年代。その時代背景を象徴するかのような一着。

A reproduction of the vintage souvenir jacket that Kosho company (the predecessor of Tailor Toyo) produced in the mid-1950s for the PX, or commissary stores in the US base of Hawaii. The detail of the black tiger is gloriously depicted by the steric effect of embroidery, which requires a high level of embroidery skill.

The motif of the reverse side is Hawaiian landscape. Is a mountain behind the palm trees the Diamond Head? In the 1950s Hawaii had flourished as a resort area and Hawaiian shirts became popular. US had experienced an oriental boom. This jacket seems to symbolize such golden age of Hawaii.
